HOW TO TRANSFER FILES FROM XIAOMI TO COMPUTER VIA WLAN (FTP ADDRESS)
Here I go with the next How To With Xiaomi. You can see my other
post about Xiaomi in here. And for your information, I’m
using Xiaomi 3s, with 7.3 MIUI version and Windows 10. I don’t know if my
method can be applied to other device or version, but you can just try it
because I think this option I used can be found on almost all of the smart devices.
I got my inspiration to write this because I have a problem when I
wanted to transfer photos from my Xiaomi to my computer using data cable. Not
all the folder I want to copy showed up even after I tried to connect many
times and with different cable. So I looked up on my Xiaomi File Manager and
found out what I could say a better way for me to transfer files from my Xiaomi
to computer.
So here are the ways:
I. STEPS ON XIAOMI PHONE:
1. Open File Manager in your Xiaomi
phone (I’m using the File Manager by Xiaomi from Xiaomi Inc. You can download
it on Google Play Store here)
2. Press the 3 lines
icon on the left top of the screen
3. Select Connect to computer
4. Make sure your Xiaomi and your computer connected
with the same Wi-Fi
5. Press the Start button
6. The FTP address will show up
II. continue to STEPS
ON COMPUTER
7. Open My Computer, go to This PC
8. Right click on mouse and select Add a network
location
9. Select Next
10. Select Next
11. Input the FTP address from your Xiaomi
12. Type your username you want to use to log in on the server, you
can just tick the Log on
anonymously box if you want to log on anonymously. Select Next
13. Type the name you want to give to the Xiaomi network, if you don’t
want to you can just skip it and select Next
14. Click Finish
15. Now you have new shortcut in Network Location so you can easily
transfer files from and to your Xiaomi
You need to always start the FTP connection from your Xiaomi
before you transfer the file. If you don’t turn it on, then your Xiaomi won’t
connect with your computer in a real time.
For me, I do really like this new method, because it’s easy and I
can cut out the need for data cable. I can also avoid the problem like folder
doesn’t show up like when I use data cable. But I don’t think I will leave the
data cable method, since I feel the data transfer with data cable is faster and
we don’t usually have Wi-Fi connection (I’m not really sure if the FTP data
transfer speed depends on Wi-Fi speed). But surely this new method is great,
especially for the next era where the wireless connection can substitute the
need of cable (I hope so since I always break my data cable).
